Symptoms

• The rear view mirror is not vertically adjustable
• Mirror moves slowly or jerkily when adjusting vertically
• The mirror does not respond to control commands from time to time
• The malfunction indicator on the dashboard lights up
• Possible problems with horizontal mirror adjustment

Causes

• Oxidation or loosening of contacts in the electrical connector of the mirror motor
• Damage or breakage of the wiring harness going to the electric motor
• Malfunction of the vertical adjustment motor itself
• Problems with the interior mirror control switch (sticking, contact wear)
• Insufficient supply voltage in the circuit (weak battery, problems with the generator)
• Improper control circuit grounding
• Malfunction of the body control module (BCM) or its mirror control relay
• Corrosion in connectors due to moisture

How to Fix

1. Connect to the OBD-II diagnostic system and get a complete list of errors for context
2. Visually check the mirror motor connector for corrosion, oxidation or damage.
3. Clean the contacts in the connector with coupling fluid and let dry
4. Inspect the wiring harness from the switch to the motor for breaks, cracked insulation, or kinks.
5. Using a multimeter, check the voltage at the motor input when the regulation is turned on (should be according to the specification)
6. Check the integrity of the wires and the insulation resistance of the harness
7. Test the control switch for proper signal switching
8. If the voltage is normal but the motor does not work, replace the vertical adjustment motor.
9. Check BCM power and ground
10. If necessary, replace the body control module or its mirror control relay
11. After repair, clear error memory and test functionality
