Symptoms

• The malfunction lamp on the instrument panel came on
• The folding mechanism for the third row of seats is missing or not working correctly
• The trunk hatch does not open or does not close properly
• Third row airbags disabled
• Security warning on display
• During diagnostics, code B1E4D is detected in the error memory

Causes

• Broken or damaged wires in the harness from the sensor to the control module
• Oxidation or corrosion of sensor connector contacts
• Mechanical damage or failure of the position sensor itself
• Loose wiring harness plug connection
• Sunroof mechanism solenoid valve/solenoid malfunction
• Restraint control module malfunction or failure
• Damage to cables due to accident or collision
• Incorrect assembly or reinstallation of components during repair

How to Fix

1. Connect a diagnostic scanner to read the full error code and freeze frames
2. Visually check the sensor wiring harness for breaks, chafing, moisture and corrosion.
3. Check connectors and contacts for oxidation; if necessary, clean the contacts with electrolyte
4. Check the mechanical integrity of the third row left seat position sensor
5. Measure the resistance at the sensor contacts using a multimeter (compare with standard values)
6. Check the supply voltage at the sensor (usually 5 or 12 volts depending on the type)
7. Try to reconnect the sensor connector and clean the contacts from oxidation
8. If necessary, replace the position sensor or the entire sunroof mechanism assembly
9. If the problem persists, diagnose the safety control module.
10. Clear error memory and test drive to check
