Symptoms

• ABS warning light is on
• Disabling ESP/TCS systems
• Incorrect operation of the speedometer (in some models)
• Feeling of vibration when braking (if ABS is unstable)

Causes

• Wheel speed sensor malfunction
• Open or short circuit in wiring harness
• The tone ring is damaged or dirty
• Corrosion of sensor connector contacts
• Problems with the gap between the pickup and the tone ring
• ABS control unit malfunction

How to Fix

1. Visually inspect the sensor and wiring harness for damage
2. Checking the resistance and signal of the sensor
3. Diagnosing sensor circuits with a multimeter or oscilloscope
4. Inspect the tone ring for damage or dirt
5. Checking the gap between the pickup and the tone ring
6. Replace the sensor or repair the wiring harness if necessary
7. Cleaning the connector contacts
8. Erasing the error code and checking the system operation
