Tire Pressure Monitor Malfunction Indicator

Symptoms

  • TPMS light stays on or flashes
  • TPMS light does not come on when pressure is low
  • The system does not show the pressure in one or more tires
  • Unable to reset TPMS warning
  • Error code persists after reset

Causes

  • Malfunction of the pressure sensor in one of the wheels
  • Low battery in TPMS sensor (lifespan 5-7 years)
  • TPMS module malfunction
  • Mismatch of saved sensor IDs (after replacing wheels)
  • TPMS indicator lamp circuit malfunction

How to Fix

  1. Check the pressure in all tires manually with a pressure gauge.
  2. Read TPMS module error codes and sensor data
  3. Determine which sensor is not transmitting data
  4. Check the sensor battery (if it is more than 5 years old, replace it)
  5. Rebind TPMS sensors after replacing or rotating wheels
  6. Replace faulty TPMS sensor or module
