Symptoms

  • Stiff brake pedal, increased force required to brake
  • The brake warning light on the dashboard is on
  • Increased braking distance
  • Extraneous sounds when the brake booster operates
  • ABS or ESP light is on

Causes

  • Brake booster solenoid valve malfunction
  • Open or short circuit in valve wiring harness
  • Oxidation or damage to the solenoid connector
  • Malfunction of the brake system control unit
  • Vacuum leak in the amplifier system

How to Fix

  1. Carry out diagnostics with a scanner that supports the brake system.
  2. Check the brake booster solenoid valve with a multimeter (winding resistance)
  3. Inspect the wiring and solenoid connector for damage and oxidation.
  4. Check for vacuum in the amplifier system
  5. Replace faulty solenoid or repair wiring
  6. After repair, reset the error and perform a test drive
