Symptoms

• Incorrect operation of transfer case modes
• 4WD/Check Engine light is on
• The car may be stuck in one mode (for example, only 2WD or only 4LO)
• There may be jerks when switching modes

Causes

• Range position sensor malfunction
• Open or short circuit in wiring harness
• Poor contact in connectors
• Mechanical damage to the shift lever
• Transfer case control module malfunction

How to Fix

1. Check sensor connections and wiring harness integrity
2. Check the sensor resistance in different positions (according to the manufacturer)
3. Perform a visual inspection of the lever mechanism
4. If necessary, replace the position sensor
5. Check and, if necessary, replace the transfer case control module
