Symptoms

  • Heavy steering
  • EPS malfunction indicator on the dashboard
  • Jerky or uneven steering force
  • Loss of power steering

Causes

  • Damage to the wiring harness to the ERU position sensor
  • Oxidation or poor contact of connectors
  • Steering motor position sensor malfunction
  • Short circuit in the sensor circuit
  • Problems in the steering control unit (EPS)

How to Fix

  1. Check the integrity of the sensor wiring harness
  2. Clean connector contacts and check connections
  3. Check the resistance of the position sensor (according to the manufacturer's specifications)
  4. Scan the EPS unit for additional errors
  5. If necessary, replace the position sensor or EPS control unit
