Symptoms

• ABS and ESP warning lights are on
• Increased response time of ABS when braking
• Unusual noise from ABS hydraulic unit
• Brake pedal vibration during ABS operation is weaker than usual
• Complete disabling of ABS/ESP systems

Causes

• Mechanical wear of the ABS pump motor
• Brake fluid contamination, increased viscosity
• Air in the ABS hydraulic system
• Low supply voltage (weak battery)
• Increased resistance in the pump power circuit
• ABS control module malfunction

How to Fix

1. Perform a complete diagnostic of the ABS/ESP system
2. Check the level and condition of the brake fluid - replace if necessary
3. Check battery voltage and pump power circuit
4. Bleed the ABS hydraulic unit using a diagnostic scanner
5. Check the current consumption of the electric motor during operation
6. If the motor malfunctions, replace the ABS hydraulic unit
