Symptoms
- The parking brake warning lamp stays on constantly or does not come on at all.
- ESP/Auto Hold system does not work correctly
- Hill Start Assist does not work
- Sound signal when driving with the handbrake “supposedly” on
- Parking brake error message on display
Causes
- Parking brake limit switch faulty
- Open or short circuit in switch wiring
- Misadjustment or mechanical damage to the switch
- Oxidation of connector contacts
- EPB button malfunction (on vehicles with electric parking brake)
How to Fix
- Read the error codes and check the status of the parking brake switch with a scanner
- Check the operation of the switch - it should change state when the brake is turned on/off
- Measure the voltage and resistance at the switch contacts
- Inspect the wiring and connector for damage
- Replace or adjust the limit switch
- Reset the error and check for correct operation
