Symptoms

• Rough idle
• Reduced engine power
• Increased fuel consumption
• Check Engine Light Illuminates
• Hard engine start

Causes

• Faulty VVT solenoid
• Open or short circuit in wiring harness
• Contaminated or old engine oil
• Mechanical failure of the VVT mechanism
• Low oil pressure
• Problems with the engine ECU

How to Fix

1. Check the level and condition of the engine oil, replace if necessary
2. Inspect the VVT solenoid wiring harness and connectors for damage.
3. Check VVT solenoid resistance (usually 6-12 ohms)
4. Test the operation of the VVT solenoid with a 12V supply
5. Check oil pressure
6. If necessary, replace the VVT solenoid or phase change mechanism
7. Clear the error and check the system operation
