Symptoms

- Difficulty starting the engine
- Check Engine Light Illuminated
- Rough engine operation when accelerating
- Engine knocking in some operating modes
Causes
- Faulty intake valve control solenoid
- Open or short circuit in solenoid wiring
- Solenoid clogged with engine oil contaminants
- Low engine oil pressure
- Using poor quality or contaminated oil
- Engine control unit (ECU) malfunction
- Oxidation or corrosion of connector contacts
- Mechanical failure of the solenoid itself
How to Fix
- Check the level and quality of the engine oil, replace if necessary
- Read error codes and analyze scanner data
- Visually inspect the solenoid wiring and connectors for damage.
- Check the solenoid resistance with a multimeter (should be within specification)
- Check the supply voltage to the solenoid with the engine running
- Remove and clean the solenoid from dirt, check its functionality
- If necessary, replace the solenoid with a new original one.
- Check and, if necessary, repair wiring
- Clear error codes and test drive to see if the problem is resolved
