Symptoms

  • Unstable engine idling
  • Reduced engine power
  • Increased fuel consumption
  • Difficulty starting the engine
  • Check Engine Light Illuminated
  • Rough engine operation when accelerating
  • Engine knocking in some operating modes

Causes

  • Faulty intake valve control solenoid
  • Open or short circuit in solenoid wiring
  • Solenoid clogged with engine oil contaminants
  • Low engine oil pressure
  • Using poor quality or contaminated oil
  • Engine control unit (ECU) malfunction
  • Oxidation or corrosion of connector contacts
  • Mechanical failure of the solenoid itself

How to Fix

  1. Check the level and quality of the engine oil, replace if necessary
  2. Read error codes and analyze scanner data
  3. Visually inspect the solenoid wiring and connectors for damage.
  4. Check the solenoid resistance with a multimeter (should be within specification)
  5. Check the supply voltage to the solenoid with the engine running
  6. Remove and clean the solenoid from dirt, check its functionality
  7. If necessary, replace the solenoid with a new original one.
  8. Check and, if necessary, repair wiring
  9. Clear error codes and test drive to see if the problem is resolved
