Symptoms

• Unstable engine idling
• Loss of engine power
• Increased fuel consumption
• Black smoke from the exhaust pipe
• Difficulty starting the engine

Causes

• MAP sensor malfunction
• Damaged or corroded sensor connector
• Open or short circuit in sensor wiring
• Clogged or damaged vacuum hose to the sensor
• Engine ECU malfunction
• Bad sensor ground
• Sensor contamination with oil or carbon deposits

How to Fix

1. Connect the OBD-II scanner and read the error codes
2. Check the condition of the MAP sensor connector for corrosion and damage.
3. Check the sensor vacuum hose for cracks or blockages.
4. Measure the sensor supply voltage (should be about 5V)
5. Check the resistance and integrity of the sensor wiring
6. Check the operation of the sensor with a multimeter or oscilloscope
7. Replace MAP sensor if necessary
8. Clear error memory and test drive
9. Make sure no error is returned
