Symptoms

• Difficulty starting the engine

Causes

• Intake air temperature sensor malfunction
• Open circuit in the IAT sensor circuit
• Oxidation or damage to connector contacts
• Short circuit of wires to power
• Malfunction of the engine control unit (rare)
• Sensor is dirty or damaged

How to Fix

1. Check the IAT sensor connector for oxidation and connection reliability.
2. Measure the sensor resistance with a multimeter (should change with temperature)
3. Check the integrity of the wiring from the sensor to the ECU
4. Clean the sensor from contamination with a special cleaner.
5. If necessary, replace the air temperature sensor
6. Check the supply voltage in the sensor circuit (usually 5V)
7. Clear the error code and take it for a test drive to check
