Symptoms
- Check Engine light comes on
- Increased fuel consumption
- Unstable engine operation at idle
- Reduced catalytic converter efficiency
Causes
- Open or short circuit in the oxygen sensor heating circuit
- Malfunction of the oxygen sensor itself
- Problems with the wiring harness or connectors
- Heating circuit relay or fuse malfunction
- ECU problems (rare)
How to Fix
- Check the integrity of the sensor heating circuit (resistance, voltage)
- Inspect the wiring harness and connectors for damage.
- Check the fuse and relay of the heating circuit
- Replace the oxygen sensor if necessary
- Clear the error code and check if it returns
