- The scanner shows a “slow” or “sluggish” signal from sensor 1 bank 2
- Possible long-term fuel trims outside normal limits
Causes
- Degradation of the zirconium sensor element of the oxygen sensor (natural wear)
- Contamination of the sensor with lead, silicone or oil from exhaust gases
- Partial failure of the heating element (the sensor does not warm up well)
- Poisoning of the sensor by fuel additives or antifreeze due to leakage into the cylinders
- Sensor overheating due to rich mixture or ignition problems
How to Fix
- Read codes and check Bank 2 Long Term Fuel Trims (LTFT)
- Observe in real time the switching signal of sensor 1 of bank 2 - Rich-to-Lean time should not exceed 150 ms
- Check the sensor heater (resistance 2–20 ohms)
- Inspect the sensor for mechanical damage and traces of contamination
- Check for oil or antifreeze in the exhaust gases
- If the sensor responds slowly when the engine is warm and the heater is working, replace the oxygen sensor
