Symptoms

• Loss of engine power
• Unstable idling
• Increased fuel consumption
• Black smoke from the exhaust pipe
• Misfire in cylinder 9

Causes

• Wear or malfunction of the 9th cylinder injector
• Low fuel pressure in the 9th cylinder circuit
• Clogged fuel filter
• Problems with the wiring harness or contacts to the cylinder 9 injector
• High pressure fuel pump malfunction
• Mechanical wear of the injection pump drive

How to Fix

1. Read fault codes and freeze frame data to determine the error conditions.
2. Check the condition and performance of the 9th cylinder injector on the stand.
3. Check the fuel rail pressure and high pressure pump performance.
4. Inspect the injector wiring harness and electrical connector for damage, corrosion, or poor connections.
5. If necessary, replace the faulty injector, clean or replace the fuel filter.
6. Clear errors from the ECU memory and perform a test drive to verify that the problem has been resolved.
