Symptoms

  • Reduced engine power
  • Jerking during acceleration
  • Switching to limp mode
  • Black smoke from the exhaust pipe (when the mixture is over-rich)

Causes

  • Turbine control solenoid malfunction
  • Wastegate jammed
  • Leaks in boost pipes
  • Mechanical damage to the turbocharger
  • Errors in ECU software
  • Contamination or coking of the crankcase ventilation system

How to Fix

  1. Check the integrity of the pipes and intercooler for leaks
  2. Check the functionality of the bypass valve
  3. Test boost control solenoid
  4. Check the mobility of the turbine blades (if VGT)
  5. Scan the ECU for additional errors
  6. If necessary, replace faulty components
