Symptoms

  • Difficulty starting the engine in the cold
  • Unstable operation during warm-up period
  • Increased fuel consumption when warming up
  • Check Engine Light Is On
  • Possible smell of burnt wiring

Causes

  • Short circuit in the control circuit to the power line
  • Faulty cold start system relay
  • Damage to wiring or connector
  • Malfunction of the actuator (injector/valve)
  • ECU malfunction (rare)

How to Fix

  1. Read error codes and write frozen parameters (freeze frame)
  2. Check the connectors and wiring of the cold start control circuit for short circuit
  3. Check the voltage on the control circuit with the ignition off
  4. Check the cold start system relay (measure resistance, check operation)
  5. Check the actuator (injector/valve) with a multimeter
  6. If necessary, replace the damaged element and recheck
