Symptoms
- Difficulty starting the engine in the cold
- Unstable operation during warm-up period
- Increased fuel consumption when warming up
- Check Engine Light Is On
- Possible smell of burnt wiring
Causes
- Short circuit in the control circuit to the power line
- Faulty cold start system relay
- Damage to wiring or connector
- Malfunction of the actuator (injector/valve)
- ECU malfunction (rare)
How to Fix
- Read error codes and write frozen parameters (freeze frame)
- Check the connectors and wiring of the cold start control circuit for short circuit
- Check the voltage on the control circuit with the ignition off
- Check the cold start system relay (measure resistance, check operation)
- Check the actuator (injector/valve) with a multimeter
- If necessary, replace the damaged element and recheck
