Symptoms

  • Sudden short-term engine stops while driving
  • Unstable idle
  • Jerks when accelerating
  • Difficulty starting the engine
  • Check Engine Light Is On (Intermittent)

Causes

  • Unreliable contact in the engine speed sensor connector
  • Damage to wiring (chafing, interference)
  • Contamination or damage to the drive wheel gear
  • Worn or failing sensor
  • Weak sensor fastening (the gap varies)

How to Fix

  1. Read codes, check for associated crankshaft/camshaft sensor errors
  2. Inspect the sensor connector, clean the contacts, make sure the fixation is secure.
  3. Check the wiring for chafing and proximity to high-voltage ignition wires
  4. Check the air gap between the sensor and the gear (normal: 0.5–1.5 mm)
  5. Inspect the drive disc gear for damage.
  6. Replace the sensor if it is confirmed to be faulty
