Symptoms

• Difficulty starting the engine
• Unstable engine operation
• Power Loss
• The engine stalls
• Check Engine light comes on

Causes

• Faulty crankshaft position (CKP) sensor
• Damaged CKP sensor wiring harness
• Poor contact in the CKP sensor connector
• Problems with the timing belt/chain (jumping, breakage)
• Faulty engine ECU (rare)

How to Fix

1. Check the condition of the timing belt/chain (replace if necessary)
2. Check the CKP sensor and its connector for damage
3. Check the resistance and signal of the CKP sensor
4. Check the CKP sensor wiring harness for opens and shorts
5. If necessary, replace the CKP sensor
6. If you suspect a faulty ECU, carry out diagnostics
