Symptoms

Causes

• Faulty camshaft drive shaft position sensor
• Open or shorted wiring harness
• Poor contact in the sensor connector
• VVT solenoid malfunction
• Mechanical problems with the timing chain or VVT drive
• Engine ECU malfunction

How to Fix

1. Check the integrity of the wiring harness and the condition of the sensor connector
2. Measure resistance and voltage at the sensor
3. Check VVT solenoid operation
4. Conduct diagnostics of the variable valve timing system
5. Replace the faulty sensor or repair the wiring harness if necessary
6. Clean or replace VVT solenoid if problems are found
