Symptoms

Causes

  • Cam Profile B Position Sensor Malfunction
  • Open or short circuit in the sensor circuit
  • Problems with the sensor connector
  • Mechanical malfunctions in the VVT system (timing chain wear, phase shifter jamming)
  • Low or poor quality engine oil
  • VVT solenoid malfunction
  • Software error in the engine control unit

How to Fix

  1. Check the level and condition of the engine oil, replace if necessary
  2. Visually inspect the integrity of the wiring harness and sensor connector
  3. Check resistance and signal of cam profile position sensor B
  4. Check VVT solenoid operation
  5. Inspect the mechanical components of the VVT system for wear or damage.
  6. Clear VVT system adaptations and relearn using diagnostic equipment
  7. If necessary, replace the sensor or other faulty components
  8. Update ECU firmware (if required)
