Symptoms

  • Jerks when accelerating
  • Difficulty starting the engine

Causes

  • Broken or shorted camshaft position sensor wiring
  • Faulty phase regulator position sensor
  • Contamination or wear of the phase regulator
  • Low oil pressure in the VVT system
  • Contaminated or unsuitable engine oil
  • ECU malfunction (rare)

How to Fix

  1. Connect the scanner and read all error codes
  2. Check the electrical circuit of the sensor: voltage, grounding, wiring resistance
  3. Inspect the sensor connector and wiring for damage or oxidation.
  4. Replace the camshaft position sensor if the circuit is OK
  5. Check oil pressure and compliance with specifications
  6. Clean or replace the phase regulator if there is a mechanical fault
  7. Reset the error and take a test drive to check
