Symptoms

  • Misfire in one or more cylinders

Causes

  • Open or short circuit in the ignition coil wiring harness
  • Faulty ignition coil
  • Problem with the output circuit in the ECU
  • Poor contact in the ignition coil or ECU connector
  • Contact corrosion
  • Mechanical damage to wiring

How to Fix

  1. Visual inspection of wiring and connectors for damage
  2. Checking the ignition coil resistance
  3. Checking the integrity of the control circuit from the computer to the coil
  4. Checking the presence of a control signal from the computer with an oscilloscope
  5. Replacing a faulty ignition coil if necessary
  6. Repair or replace damaged wiring harness
  7. Cleaning contacts in connectors
  8. Software diagnostics of the computer if it is suspected of malfunction
