Symptoms

• Check Engine Light Is On
• Limiting or disabling the operation of the EGR system
• Increased NOx emissions
• Increased fuel consumption
• Possible engine emergency mode with power limitation

Causes

• Short circuit of the EGR temperature sensor wire to power
• Sensor thermistor internal break
• Damage to the sensor connector (corrosion, deformation of contacts)
• Damage to wiring due to high temperatures
• Faulty EGR cooler (system overheating)
• ECU malfunction (rare)

How to Fix

1. Connect a diagnostic scanner and read the codes and current sensor data
2. Check the readings of the EGR temperature sensor B: do they correspond to the actual temperature?
3. Disconnect the sensor connector and measure its resistance at room temperature
4. Check wiring for short to power (12 V or 5 V)
5. Inspect the connector and wiring harness in the heating zone
6. Replace EGR temperature sensor B if the fault is confirmed
7. Check the EGR cooler for cooling efficiency
8. Reset codes and take a test drive
