Symptoms

• Check Engine light is on
• Possible reduction in catalyst efficiency
• Unstable temperature readings in diagnostic data

Causes

• Faulty or dirty catalyst temperature sensor
• Damaged or clogged catalyst channels of bank 2
• Poor contact in the sensor connector
• Mechanical damage to the sensor (shock, vibration)
• Catalyst heat shield shift
• Carbon deposits or oil on the sensor sensing element

How to Fix

1. Read codes and sensor data in real time while the engine warms up
2. Compare the temperature profile of sensor 1 of bank 2 with sensor 1 of bank 1 (should be similar)
3. Check the connector and wiring for poor contact
4. Visually inspect the sensor and its installation location
5. Replace the temperature sensor if the readings are clearly illogical
6. Check the efficiency of the catalyst bank 2 (code P0430)
7. Reset the error and take a test drive
