Symptoms

  • Check Engine light is on
  • Illogical temperature readings in diagnostic data
  • Potentially impaired catalyst temperature control
  • Increased harmful emissions
  • Ride quality is usually not affected

Causes

  • Mechanically damaged or dirty sensor
  • Poor contact in the connector (without a complete break)
  • Shift or damage to the catalyst heat shield
  • Carbon deposits or oil deposits on the sensing element of the sensor
  • Degraded sensor (loss of calibration)
  • Real non-standard operation of bank 2 catalyst

How to Fix

  1. Read codes and start monitoring sensor data in real time
  2. Compare the behavior of the sensor during warming up with the expected profile
  3. Check the connector and fastening of the sensor visually
  4. Compare readings with sensor bank 1, sensor 2 - they should be close
  5. Replace the temperature sensor if illogical readings are confirmed
  6. Check the condition of the catalytic converter bank 2 (code P0430)
