Symptoms
- Check Engine light comes on
- Increased fuel consumption
- The smell of gasoline in or near the car
Causes
- Open or short circuit in EVAP purge valve wiring harness
- EVAP purge solenoid valve malfunction
- Problems with connectors or contact corrosion
- Malfunction of the engine control unit (rare)
How to Fix
- Check the integrity of the EVAP purge valve wiring harness and connectors.
- Check the resistance of the purge valve with a multimeter
- Replace EVAP purge valve if faulty
- Clean or replace damaged connectors
- Reset the error and check if it returns
