Symptoms

• Incorrect display of fuel level on the dashboard
• The fuel level needle moves chaotically
• Low fuel light stays on or does not come on

Causes

• Fuel level sensor malfunction
• Open or short circuit in wiring harness
• Poor contact in sensor connectors
• Problems with the fuel pump (if the sensor is built into the pump module)
• ECU malfunction

How to Fix

1. Check connections and connectors of the fuel level sensor
2. Check the sensor resistance and compare with the nominal values (usually indicated in the repair manual)
3. Inspect the wiring harness for damage or corrosion.
4. If necessary, replace the fuel level sensor
5. Check the sensor signal using a diagnostic scanner
