Symptoms

  • Check Engine Light Is On
  • Reduced engine thrust
  • Increased fuel consumption
  • Increased exhaust smoke (especially on diesel engines)
  • Slow engine warm-up in cold weather
  • Deterioration of the EGR system
  • Possible overheating during prolonged use

Causes

  • Stuck or damaged exhaust pressure control valve
  • Open or short circuit in the valve actuator circuit
  • Valve clogged with carbon deposits or combustion products
  • Vacuum valve actuator malfunction
  • Damage to the actuator (actuator)
  • ECU malfunction (rare)

How to Fix

  1. Check for other codes - P0476, P0477, P0478 help to more accurately localize the cause
  2. Visually inspect the valve and its drive for mechanical damage and carbon deposits
  3. Check electrical connectors and valve wiring harness
  4. Measure the resistance of the valve solenoid - compare with the standard according to the documentation
  5. Check the vacuum drive (if equipped): there are no leaks in the tubes
  6. Clean the valve from carbon deposits or replace it if it is mechanically jammed
  7. Perform valve activation test via scanner
  8. Reset codes and check the result
