Symptoms

• Check Engine Light Is On

Causes

• Faulty EGR sensor B (internal failure)
• Open or short circuit in sensor wiring
• Oxidized or damaged sensor connector
• Contamination of the sensor with carbon deposits from exhaust gases
• Clogged EGR channels affecting pressure
• Faulty EGR valve producing an incorrect pressure signal
• ECU malfunction (rare)

How to Fix

1. Read all codes - accompanying EGR codes (P0400–P0404) will help to more accurately localize the problem
2. Check EGR sensor connector B: oxidation, contact deformation
3. Measure the sensor supply voltage (usually 5V) and the presence of ground
4. Measure the signal voltage of the sensor at various positions of the EGR valve
5. Clean the sensor and adjacent channels from carbon deposits
6. Check the integrity of the wiring from the sensor to the ECU with a multimeter
7. Replace EGR sensor B if readings deviate from normal
8. After replacement, reset the codes and adapt the EGR system
