Symptoms

  • Check Engine light comes on
  • The smell of gasoline in the cabin or near the car
  • Increased fuel consumption
  • Problems with fuel refueling (interruption of supply)

Causes

  • Fuel vapor control valve jammed
  • Open or short circuit in valve control circuit
  • Engine control unit (ECU) malfunction
  • Mechanical damage to the EVAP valve or tubes

How to Fix

  1. Check the mechanical condition of the fuel vapor control valve
  2. Check valve control circuit for open/short circuit.
  3. Check the resistance and operation of the solenoid part of the valve
  4. Check the pressure and tightness of the EVAP system
  5. Replace faulty valve if necessary
