Symptoms

  • Difficulty starting a hot engine
  • Increased fuel consumption
  • Feeling the smell of fuel outside the car

Causes

  • Loose or damaged fuel cap
  • Cracked or damaged fuel tank
  • Rupture or crack in the EVAP system hose on the tank side
  • Faulty fuel filler valve
  • Damaged carbon adsorber or its pipes

How to Fix

  1. Check the tightness of the fuel tank cap and replace if the seal is worn
  2. Inspect all EVAP system hoses on the tank side for cracks or disconnections.
  3. Perform a smoke test on the EVAP system to pinpoint the location of the leak.
  4. Inspect the fuel tank for damage and cracks
  5. Check the condition of the carbon adsorber and its pipes
  6. Replace damaged EVAP system elements
  7. Reset the error and conduct a test drive to confirm the resolution
