Limited driving only, diagnose soon
Approx. repair cost
$6–167 (est.)
Symptoms
- Long engine warm-up
- Unstable engine operation at idle
- Increased fuel consumption
- Reduced efficiency of the interior heating system
- Possible misfires during warm-up
Causes
- Faulty coolant temperature sensor (DTOZH)
- Thermostat stuck open
- Problems with the temperature sensor wiring harness
- Low coolant level
- Malfunction of the DTOZH heater circuit (if provided)
- Problems with the engine control unit (ECU)
How to Fix
- Check the level and condition of the coolant
- Carry out diagnostics of the thermostat (warm up the engine before opening)
- Check the DTOZh readings with a scanner and compare with the actual temperature
- Inspect the wiring harness and sensor connector for corrosion and damage.
- If necessary, replace the coolant temperature sensor
- Replacing the thermostat when a malfunction is detected
- Flush the cooling system if there is contamination
- Check the operation of the sensor heating circuit (if provided for in the design)
