Symptoms
- Check Engine Light Is On
- The oil pressure light on the dashboard may be on.
- Possible abnormally high blood pressure according to the scanner
- Increased engine noise (at real high pressure)
- Oil leaks through seals (at real high pressure)
Causes
- Faulty oil pressure sensor (gives inflated readings)
- Signal wire short circuit to power
- Sensor ground wire break
- Real abnormally high oil pressure
- Clogged oil filter
- Oil pump pressure reducing valve malfunction
How to Fix
- IMPORTANT: check the actual oil pressure with a mechanical pressure gauge before electrical diagnostics
- If the actual pressure is normal, diagnose the electrical circuit of the sensor
- Check the voltage at the sensor connector with a multimeter
- Check signal wire for short to power
- Check the sensor ground wire
- Replace the oil pressure sensor if it is faulty
- If the actual pressure is high, replace the oil filter, check the pressure relief valve
- Reset error after repair
