Symptoms

  • Unstable engine idling during cold start
  • Reduced power and throttle response
  • Increased fuel consumption
  • Possible popping noises in the exhaust system

Causes

  • Dirty/worn VVT solenoid on bank 2
  • Low oil pressure (inadequate viscosity, clogged filter)
  • Mechanical damage to the phase shifter
  • Malfunction of the camshaft position sensor (bank 2)
  • Problems with the VVT wiring harness or connectors
  • ECU software error (reflashing required)

How to Fix

  1. Check the level and condition of the engine oil (replace if necessary)
  2. Visually inspect the timing chain on bank 2
  3. Check resistance and operation of VVT solenoid
  4. Test camshaft position sensor (bank 2)
  5. Check oil pressure (especially during cold starts)
  6. Scan the system for related errors
  7. If necessary, replace the phase shifter or VVT solenoid
