Engine Oil Pressure Sensor/Switch B Low

Symptoms

  • The oil pressure lamp on the instrument panel lights up
  • Check Engine Light Illuminates
  • Extraneous knocking noises in the engine (at real low pressure)
  • Unstable operation of the VVT system
  • Engine emergency mode with speed limitation

Causes

  • Low engine oil level
  • Oil pump wear
  • Clogged oil filter or oil receiver mesh
  • Malfunction (break) of oil pressure sensor B
  • Oil leak in internal engine channels

How to Fix

  1. Check the oil level on the dipstick IMMEDIATELY
  2. Do not start the engine when the oil level is low
  3. Connect a mechanical pressure gauge to check the actual oil pressure
  4. If the pressure is normal, check the sensor B circuit for an open/short circuit.
  5. Replace oil pressure sensor B if it is confirmed to be faulty
  6. If the pressure is really low, perform diagnostics on the oil pump and lubrication channels.
