- ABS and/or ESP indicator lights up
- Check Engine Light Illuminates
- Incorrect operation or disabling of cruise control
- Regenerative braking malfunction (for hybrids/electric vehicles)
- Possible spontaneous braking or failure of electronic systems
Causes
- Short circuit of the sensor signal wire to power
- Malfunction of the brake pedal position sensor
- Damage or oxidation of the sensor connector
- Malfunction of the ECU or ABS/ESP module
- Mechanical jamming of the pedal assembly (rare)
How to Fix
- Read all error codes (ABS, ESP, ECU) for a complete picture
- Check the voltage on the signal wire of the sensor with the pedal pressed and released
- Inspect the sensor connector for damage and oxidation.
- Measure sensor resistance and compare with specification
- Check signal wire for short circuit to power
- Replace the brake pedal position sensor
