Causes
- Shorting the signal wire to the 12 V power wire
- SRS module internal fault (incorrect output signal)
- Damage to the insulation of the harness with contact with the positive bus
- Malfunction in the receiving ECU (incorrect reference voltage)
- Incorrect connection during previous repair
How to Fix
- CRITICAL: disconnect the battery and wait at least 10 minutes before any work
- Read codes from the SRS module with a specialized scanner
- Disconnect the connector and measure the voltage on the signal wire - if it is shorted to positive there will be ~12 V
- Check the entire signal circuit harness for contact with the power wires.
- Eliminate short circuit, check insulation
- Diagnostics and repairs should only be performed by an authorized service center.
