Causes
- Short circuit of the signal wire of the switch to the car body
- Moisture entering the switch connector with the formation of a conductive path to ground
- Breakage of the power wire while maintaining a short circuit of the signal wire
- Internal short in the parking brake switch itself
- Damage to the harness insulation in the area of the parking brake mechanism
How to Fix
- Read fault codes and check related brake system codes
- Measure the voltage on the signal wire of the switch with the ignition on in both brake positions
- Disconnect the switch connector: if the voltage rises, there is a short circuit inside the switch
- If the voltage remains low when the connector is disconnected, test the wire for a short to ground.
- Inspect the harness in the area of the parking brake lever and drive mechanism
- Replace the switch or repair the wiring based on the test results
