Causes

• Faulty CAN bus or K-Line (damage to wiring)
• Faulty ECU (problem in the communication interface)
• Short circuit or break in data lines (CAN High / CAN Low)
• The data bus load exceeds the permissible limit (several blocks occupy the bus)
• Malfunction of the OBD-II connector or wiring to it

How to Fix

1. Check the ECU supply voltage - unstable power causes communication errors
2. Inspect the OBD-II connector for bent, oxidized or broken pins
3. Try a different diagnostic scanner or cable
4. Measure the voltage on the CAN H and CAN L buses (standard at rest: CAN H ~2.5V, CAN L ~2.5V)
5. Check the resistance between CAN H and CAN L (normal: ~60 Ohm with units connected)
6. Diagnose all control units for bus conflicts
