Symptoms
- The Check Engine light comes on
- Fuel cap indicator does not work
- Or the indicator is constantly on
- No engine problems
- There may be no warning when the tank lid is open
Causes
- Burnt out fuel tank cap indicator lamp
- Open or short circuit in the lamp control circuit
- Instrument panel unit malfunction
- Corrosion in control circuit connector
- Internal ECU output fault
How to Fix
- Check the fuel cap indicator on the dashboard
- Measure the voltage at the lamp control connector
- Check the wiring from the ECU to the instrument panel
- Reset error and check for recurrence
- If the lamp and wiring are in good working order - diagnostics of the computer or instrument panel
