Fuel Pump A Control Circuit Range/Performance

Severity
⚠️ Medium
Can you drive?
Limited driving only, diagnose soon
Approx. repair cost
$6–167 (est.)

Symptoms

  • The Check Engine light comes on
  • Unstable fuel pressure
  • Periodic failures during acceleration
  • Increased noise of the fuel pump
  • Unstable engine operation under load

Causes

  • Fuel pump winding degradation (increased resistance)
  • Pump filter screen clogged
  • Unstable contact in the pump connector
  • Pump control module degradation
  • Low-quality fuel, which accelerates pump wear

How to Fix

  1. Check the fuel pressure with a pressure gauge over time at different loads
  2. Check the current consumption of the pump - compare with the norm
  3. Check the pump connector - contacts, seal
  4. Replace the fuel filter (if there is a replacement one)
  5. Pump diagnostics with an oscilloscope - current analysis
  6. If the pump degrades, replace the fuel pump
