Symptoms

  • Incorrect display of the current gear on the instrument panel
  • Problems starting the engine in some selector positions
  • The gearbox operates in only one mode (for example, only in third gear)
  • Check Engine light comes on
  • The vehicle may not start in 'P' or 'N' position

Causes

  • Selector lever position sensor malfunction
  • Open or short circuit in the sensor circuit
  • Poor contact in the sensor connector
  • Mechanical problems with shift cable
  • Transmission control unit malfunction

How to Fix

  1. Check the condition and level of the transmission fluid
  2. Inspect the connector and wiring of the selector position sensor
  3. Check sensor resistance according to manufacturer's specifications
  4. If necessary, replace the selector lever position sensor
  5. Check and adjust the mechanical connection between the selector lever and the gearbox
