Symptoms
- Incorrect display of the current gear on the instrument panel
- Problems starting the engine in some selector positions
- The gearbox operates in only one mode (for example, only in third gear)
- Check Engine light comes on
- The vehicle may not start in 'P' or 'N' position
Causes
- Selector lever position sensor malfunction
- Open or short circuit in the sensor circuit
- Poor contact in the sensor connector
- Mechanical problems with shift cable
- Transmission control unit malfunction
How to Fix
- Check the condition and level of the transmission fluid
- Inspect the connector and wiring of the selector position sensor
- Check sensor resistance according to manufacturer's specifications
- If necessary, replace the selector lever position sensor
- Check and adjust the mechanical connection between the selector lever and the gearbox
