Symptoms

  • Check Engine Light Is On
  • Gear shifting problems
  • The car does not recognize the parking mode
  • Inability to start the car (in some models)
  • Incorrect display of selector position on the instrument panel

Causes

  • Open or short circuit in the sensor circuit
  • Selector lever position sensor malfunction
  • Oxidation or poor contact in connectors
  • Mechanical damage to wiring
  • Problems with the transmission control unit

How to Fix

  1. Check the integrity of the sensor wiring and connectors
  2. Test the selector lever position sensor
  3. Clean contacts from oxides and corrosion
  4. If necessary, replace the position sensor
  5. Check and, if necessary, reflash the transmission control unit
