Symptoms

  • Incorrect display of gear lever position on the instrument panel
  • Problems starting the engine (the car may not start in the 'Parking' or 'Neutral' position)
  • Inability to change gears
  • Activating emergency transmission mode
  • The Check Engine light comes on

Causes

  • Neutral position sensor A or B faulty
  • Damaged or corroded electrical contacts
  • Open or short circuit in the sensor circuit
  • Mechanical damage to the gear shift lever
  • Problems with the transmission control unit

How to Fix
