Symptoms

• Unstable engine operation at idle
• Loss of engine power
• Jerks when accelerating
• Check Engine light comes on
• The engine goes into emergency mode

Causes

• Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) malfunction
• Problems with wiring to the TPS sensor
• Mechanical damage to the throttle valve
• Throttle valve contamination
• Malfunction of the electronic control unit (ECU)

How to Fix

1. Check the condition of the throttle valve and clean if necessary
2. Check the throttle position sensor (TPS) and its wiring.
3. Check resistance and voltage at TPS sensor
4. If necessary, replace the TPS sensor
5. Check and, if necessary, replace the throttle valve
