Causes

  • Transmission fluid temperature sensor malfunction
  • Open or short circuit in the sensor circuit
  • Poor contact in the sensor connector
  • Low transmission fluid level
  • Transmission control module (TCM) malfunction

How to Fix

  1. Check the level and condition of the transmission fluid
  2. Check the integrity of the sensor circuit and the quality of connections
  3. Test sensor resistance at different temperatures
  4. Replace the transmission fluid temperature sensor if necessary
  5. Check and, if necessary, replace the transmission control unit
