Symptoms
- Incorrect gear shifting (too late or too early)
- Increased engine speed at idle or while driving
- The car may not shift into higher gears
- Decreased fuel efficiency
- The Check Engine light may come on
Causes
- Faulty kick down switch (internal short circuit)
- Short to ground in the wiring to the switch
- Mechanical sticking or damage to the switch button
- Damage or chafing of the wiring harness in the pedal assembly area
- Problems with connectors (oxidation, corrosion, damaged contacts)
How to Fix
- Carry out diagnostics with a scanner to check the status of the circuit breaker in real time
- Visually inspect the kick-down switch and adjacent wiring for mechanical damage.
- Check the switch circuit for short circuit using a multimeter
- If necessary, replace the faulty kick-down switch
- Clean or replace damaged connectors, restore wire insulation
