Symptoms

• Unstable engine idling
• Reduced engine power
• Increased fuel consumption
• Check Engine Light Is On
• Detonation (knock) during acceleration

Causes

• Dirty or stuck EGR valve
• EGR valve position sensor malfunction
• Depressurization of vacuum hoses of the EGR system
• Problems with the EGR valve control circuit
• Contamination of EGR system channels with carbon deposits

How to Fix

1. Check the condition of the EGR valve and clean or replace if necessary
2. Check the integrity of vacuum hoses and connections
3. Check the EGR valve control circuit
4. Clean the EGR system channels from carbon deposits
5. If necessary, replace the EGR valve position sensor
